A Great Cloud of Witnesses - Isaac: Part 4 of 13

Preview: Faith heroes. This is the fourth part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.


Scripture Reading: Genesis 21:1-12.

Memory Verse: Genesis 17:19.

1. Is it clear from the foregoing Scriptures that God’s promise to Abraham was extended to Isaac and his offspring? Discuss.
2. Did Isaac display the same kind of faith and obedience that he had seen in his father? How? Genesis 22:1-13.
Note: Abraham had been a living witness to his son. He had been faithful and obedient in all things. Now Isaac was displaying the same spirit that he had seen in his father. Children are more likely to follow what they see than what they hear.
3. Who chose Isaac’s wife? Genesis 24:1-4.
4. How did Abraham’s servant know that Rebecca was God’s choice? Genesis 24:10-14.
5. How did God respond to his prayer? Genesis 24:15-24.
6. How did he respond to God’s answer? Genesis 24:26-27.
Note: Imagine how different our children might be if our own faithfulness and trust was always displayed. We need to remember and teach our children from birth that God has not changed. He is still able to provide the right mate for our sons and daughters, if we and they will permit Him to.
7. How did Isaac and Rebekah respond to each other when they met? Genesis 24:61-67.
8. What was Isaac’s relationship with God after the death of Abraham? Genesis 25:7-11, Genesis 26:1-6.
Note: Just as Abraham had done, Isaac trusted and obeyed God, and He reaffirmed the promise to Isaac that He had given to his father.
9. How did God answer Isaac’s prayer for Rebekah? Genesis 25:20-21.
10. How did Isaac’s life bear witness to the heathen around him? Genesis 26:19-29.
11. What was his response to those who had hated and mistreated him? Genesis 26:30-33.
Note: When Isaac trusted God and did good for evil, his enemies realized that Jehovah had to be the true God. No wonder Paul placed Isaac’s name in the hall of faith in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews.
