Preview: Our eyes can lead us into temptation and trouble. There are many examples of this throughout the Bible.

Scripture Reading: I John 2:4-17.

Memory Verse I John 2:16.

1. What happened when Eve’s eyes were attracted to the forbidden tree? Genesis 3:6.
2. How did God punish Adam and his wife for their disobedience? Genesis 3:16-19.
3. What sin did the sons of God commit when they looked on ungodly women? Genesis 6:1-2.
4. What proposition did God make when they left His divine order? Genesis 6:3.
Note: Man spends too much time seeking ways to expand his vision, and not enough time seeking ways to limit his vision. Our eyes are helpful to us when we look at the right things, and harmful to us when we look at the wrong things. Purity requires a Christian to be careful with his eyes.
5. What happened to David when he lost control of his eyes? II Samuel 11:1-5.
6. How did David attempt to cover his sin? II Samuel 11:6-13.
7. What did David do after Uriah went back to battle? II Samuel 11:14-17.
8. How did David’s evil deed affect God? II Samuel 11:26-27.
9. What message did Nathan take to David? How did David respond? II Samuel 12:1-6.
10. What confession did David make after Nathan rebuked him? II Samuel 12:7-13.
Note: The man David, whom God loved and favored, let his eyes lead him astray. David acknowledged his sin and repented, but he had to suffer for his misbehavior.
11. Why should we be careful about what we look at? Romans 6:12-13.
